Across the Nation America has been suffering for some time now from the economic crunch which has hit us. No where is this more evident than when you talk to one of our Food Pantries here in Vermont. Just visit

and watch a video which was made this past year and released in December.
Food pantries across the state are seeing more people than they have ever seen. There is no dividing line between what we would call poor and middle class people who need help to make it through one more day or week until they can find a job. It could be your own neighbor who has been hit by this epidemic and you don’t know it because they hide it afraid of the shame it implies.
“Hunger isn’t seen – it is felt”
More on this can be red in the attached documents. The plan is easy. We are asking units to Display their HELPFULNESS and DO A GOOD TURN by participating in a District wide food drive to help fill their local food shelves. Download the document to add your own unit information. Print them and attach to bags you may be able to get donated from your local grocer. Set them out February 6th and pick them ALL up on February 20th. Deliver them to your local Food Pantry /Shelf. ( A document is attached to help you find your pantry.) Make sue one leader in your unit take charge to count the number items which helped your pantry out and takes charge of contacting the pantry to set up time to get the food there.
Then Call or email Ted Merchant 802-748-9507 merchanttheron@yahoo.com to let him know your results for the District Record. Ted is also on the Governors Task Force for the Vermont Food Bank and can help connect you with your local pantry if you wish.
