District Executive - Kevin O'Hara Honored with National Award

Green Mountain Council District Executive Kevin O’Hara has been awarded the Boy Scouts of America National Scoutreach President’s Award. The Scoutreach National President’s Recognition Program honors select urban and rural youth-serving executives for their outstanding achievements in unit and membership growth and increased quality units in a Scoutreach area. Mr. O’Hara serves the Long Trail district which is comprised of Orange, Washington, Caledonia, Orleans and Essex counties in Vermont.

Executives are nominated by their local Scout Executives and approved by the Regional Directors. Only 16 Executives nationwide are selected per year. The nominee must serve an urban or rural district and their district must qualify for the Quality District Award or the nominee must have qualified for the Chief Scout Executives’ (CSE’s) Winners Circle in 2007. Mr. O’Hara met both qualifications.

Mr. O’Hara credits much of his district’s success to the many great volunteers that make Scouting possible in the Long Trail district.  The Long Trail district is comprised of a little over 1800 youth and 400 adult volunteers.

Executives were invited to the May 22-25, 2008 National Annual meeting in San Diego, California. The National Council paid all expenses for recipients. Recipients attended the Americanism Breakfast, Leadership Lunch, National Annual Business meeting, Closing Banquet, and a special dinner for recipients. A special session was held with the honored executives and selected National Council divisions.
