Scout Executive Selection Announcment

To:   Registered Scouters & Council Stakeholders

Dear Green Mountain Council Family – I am very pleased to share some exciting news: Anthony “Tony” Vogl has accepted the position of Scout Executive for the Green Mountain Council and will join us on October 16.

We could not be happier to welcome Tony and his family back to Vermont. He brings significant experience and talent to the role, along with a warm, collaborative style and a genuine commitment to the people who make Scouting possible. He knows this Council, cares deeply about its future, and is excited to get to work with all of you.

Some of you may already know or remember Tony. He grew up in Colchester, began his Scouting journey with Pack 618, and later earned the rank of Eagle Scout with Burlington Troop 650. He spent eight summers on staff at Mount Norris before beginning his professional Scouting career with the Green Mountain Council in 2000. As District Executive for the Calvin Coolidge District, Tony worked closely with local units and volunteers and developed firsthand familiarity with the different ways Scouting operates across Vermont.

Since leaving Vermont, Tony has built more than two decades of experience in membership growth, communications, fundraising, finance, development, and council leadership. He served in several leadership roles with the Connecticut Yankee Council and later as Director of Development for the Seneca Waterways Council in Rochester, New York. Most recently, he has served as a Philanthropic Advisor in Scouting America’s National Office of Development. He has also volunteered as a Den Leader, Cubmaster, Scoutmaster and most recently Assistant Scoutmaster. Tony and his wife Nicole have three children: Logan, an Eagle Scout; Charlotte, a Star Scout; and Caden, a Tenderfoot.

Members of the GMC Scout Executive Selection Committee congratulate Anthony Vogl on Friday at the DoubleTree Hotel in South Burlington.

Throughout the search process, we were impressed by Tony’s understanding that strong Council leadership must translate into practical support for Scouts, volunteers, families, units, and staff. His experience in communication, technology, fundraising, and relationship-building will help us strengthen local units, support volunteers more effectively, reach new families, and grow Scouting across Vermont.

During his first 90 days, Tony plans to spend significant time reconnecting with the Council, meeting and listening to volunteers and staff, visiting units and communities, and learning where we can better support them. I encourage you to share your thoughts and experiences related to building and sustaining strong programs, supporting our Scouts and adult volunteers, reaching new families, and maintaining a positive Scouting experience for families from the moment they join.

On behalf of the Executive Board and the search committee, I also want to thank everyone who shared thoughts and completed our surveys during the search process. Your feedback helped us think carefully about what the Green Mountain Council needs from its next leader, and those perspectives mattered.
Please join me in welcoming Tony home to the Green Mountain Council. We are excited for what comes next and grateful to have him returning to Vermont to lead alongside our Scouts, volunteers, families, and staff.

Yours in Scouting,

Sarah Buxton
