National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is a six-day outdoor leadership program that helps Scouts, Venturers, and Explorers develop skills they can use to lead themselves and others throughout their lives. Participants must be at least 13 years old and have a unit leader recommendation. Scouts BSA participants must also be at least First Class and have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops.
The course is delivered in a troop and patrol setting, using fun, hands-on activities to teach leadership concepts. Skills are introduced early, practiced throughout the week, and reinforced with memory aids so participants can quickly understand and apply what they are learning.
What To Expect
Each day is full of activity as participants learn what a leader must BE, KNOW, and DO. NYLT models the Scouts BSA linked troop structure, with male and female troops learning together while maintaining separate patrol activities and camping. The goal is for participants to return home ready to use their new leadership skills in their own units.
